Orange & Teal closed its previous Marina Square outlet back in Oct 2024
Orange & Teal, the cafe started by Singapore Democratic Party chief Chee Soon Juan and his wife, will be closing after more than four years in operation.
The announcement was made on its Facebook and Instagram pages on Tuesday morning (Nov 11). While no specific final closing date was given, a search on Google revealed that it’s listed as “permanently closed.”
“While this chapter comes to a close, we do so with gratitude and optimism. We are happy we started Orange & Teal, and just as happy to leave it on our own terms—knowing its spirit of courage, warmth and connection will live on,” wrote the cafe.
It is holding a “cash & carry” sale from Nov 11-13, where customers can buy items and decor from the cafe.
Its other outlet grappled with high costs
Chee and his wife opened the first Orange & Teal outlet at Rochester Mall in Jun 2021, promoting it as a space for community and conversation.
The café expanded to Marina Square in Aug 2022, but that outlet shut down in Oct 2024 due to rising costs.
Chee previously described running the cafe as physically demanding and financially difficult, citing high rents and manpower shortages.
With the Rochester Mall outlet now closed, Orange & Teal will officially end its F&B chapter—though its parting message hints it may not be goodbye forever.
“This is not goodbye, only until next time,” said the cafe. “We look forward to picking up where we left off on another day.”
Vulcan Post has reached out to the cafe and Chee for more information.
